Cambodia Gambling Halls
May 12th, 2021 at 9:25There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is illegal. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are supposedly required to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, features 150 slots and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that features a number of amenities accompanying the casino, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight table games.
